AI Porn Is Coming for Africa and Nobody Here Is Ready

Generated adult content went from obviously fake to hard to identify in about two years. It is now cheap, fast, and improving on a curve that shows no sign of flattening.

Every adult platform on earth is about to be flooded. Here is what that specifically means for this continent.

The threat is not the one people name

Most of the panic is about generated content competing with real creators. That is real but it is second-order, and it will sort itself out — see below.

The first-order threat is deepfakes of real people, and Africa is unusually exposed to it.

The reason is legal, not technical. Several countries here have no offence that names non-consensual intimate imagery at all — Nigeria's cybercrime law has to route these cases through a cyberstalking provision that was written for something else, and Uganda's computer misuse framework does not cover it. Now add synthetic material to a legal system that has not yet accommodated the non-synthetic version. There is no statute waiting for it.

And the practical barrier collapsed. Making a convincing fake of somebody used to need skill. It now needs a phone and a handful of photos, which every person on Instagram has already published.

The most likely victims are not famous. They are ordinary people in cities where a rumour does real damage and where the legal remedy does not exist yet.

Why generated content will not win the amateur category

Now the more optimistic half, because it is genuinely true.

AI is extremely good at fantasy and extremely bad at reality. Generated content converges on an average — smooth, symmetrical, lit like a product shot, set nowhere. That is fine for a genre built on fantasy.

The amateur category is not that genre. It is built on the opposite. Its entire value is that it is a real person in a real room, and the specific things a model smooths away — the ordinary apartment, the bad lamp, the actual body, the fact that someone lives there — are exactly the things the audience is there for.

You cannot generate authenticity. The moment it is generated it is the thing authenticity is defined against.

Scarcity is about to invert. When generated content is infinite and free, the premium moves to whatever can prove it is real. Verified, documented, consented, human content becomes the scarce good. Platforms that can demonstrate provenance will be worth more, not less.

That is a strange thing to say out loud, but the flood is going to make the paperwork valuable.

What creators should actually do

Be identifiably yourself — a room, a voice, a personality, a continuity across posts. Every one of those is a thing a model cannot fake because it has nothing to copy.

Do not chase volume. That is the one contest you cannot win. A generator produces more in an hour than you will in a year.

Take the provenance seriously. Publish where consent is recorded and reviewed. When the flood arrives, "this is documented as real" stops being compliance overhead and starts being the product.

Reverse image search yourself twice a year. Yandex, not Google — it is dramatically better at faces and it is what someone building a fake of you would use.

What platforms should do, and mostly will not

Label generated content. Refuse synthetic material depicting real people. Keep a human in the review loop, which is the only thing that catches what a filter does not.

Most platforms will not, because the flood is cheap inventory and cheap inventory is profitable right up until the processor calls.

We review everything before it is public and everything carries a record naming who is in it. That was already the position. It is about to be the difference between a platform that survives this and one that gets buried in its own feed.

The generated wave is coming either way. What it cannot manufacture is somebody real, in Lagos or Nairobi or Kampala, being themselves on camera.

That is the whole moat. Use it.
